Dennis Maetzold, former Edina mayor and council member, and his wife, Linda, are long- time residents of Edina. They weren’t looking for a new condo when they came across Willow Greens. The beauty of the Edina Lake Park and the Fred Richards Golf Course just drew them in. They especially liked the corner unit facing southwest with a view of rolling fairviews and beautiful mature trees. While they weren’t looking to move in the near future, they thought of Leslie, their Edina High alum daughter who graduated from college a few years ago and is now living in an apartment. She recently started her career in an operations position at a major brokerage firm in downtown Minneapolis. “This is perfect for her needs right now,” Dennis explains. “I don’t think there’s anything like this in Edina. When I was on the City Council, we used to talk about how we could get more types of housing built in Edina so people could stay in their homes when their kids moved out and so our graduates could afford to live here when they were just getting established. Willow Greens really fills that niche. With most of the homes between $200,000 and $300,000, it fits that need perfectly.” Both Dennis and Linda talked about their desire to stay in Edina and their strong connections here. “There’s a real sense of community in Edina. People do want to keep their roots here – and a lot of our graduates do come back and live here.” Maetzold likes the idea of living off the executive golf course named after fellow Edina Mayor Fred Richards, a colleague. The Fred Richards Golf Course is next to the Edina Lake Park and immediately behind the renovated condominiums of Willow Greens. The location of Willow Greens is convenient for a number of reasons – including the close proximity to Southdale, Galleria, restaurants and easy transit routes. “We were surprised it ’s right on a bus line,” Linda says. Leslie can take a bus downtown and not have to park there. It just really is in a perfect location. |
